In a world constantly fixated on the negative, Spaces of Fontana utilizes movement and body connection to create art rooted in hope. We focus on a continuous study of the physical, emotional, spiritual and spatial relationships. We derive each moment in our movement from the world around us by using a visceral connection to combine abstract ideas with the concrete.
From the seemingly mundane activities, like folding laundry, to real tragedies, like hurricanes, Spaces of Fontana concentrates on finding faith, hope and positivity in EVERY story. We find beauty in awkwardness; strength in athleticism; connection in partner-work and passion in eye contact.
As artists we strive to “create works worthwhile and beautiful, [that] not only enrich the cultural heritage of each nation and of all humanity, but they also render an exceptional social service in favour of the common good” Pope John Paul II.
Spaces of Fontana is actually a medical term defined as the connection between the two eyes.
It is the space between the anterior and posterior fibers around the iris that causes a reflex reaction from light in both eyes, even if the light is only shown in one. This anatomical connection between the eyes symbolizes the beautiful connection that eyes have between two persons. Eyes truly are the pathway into the heart of another. As a company, we use our eye contact to define the relationships between the dancers. Whether it is through a lover’s gaze, a stranger’s avoidance, or a beggar’s plea our eyes are the beginning of our story; the beginning of humanity’s story. Spaces of Fontana is a dance company that strives to tell this story.
